Hi everyone, I’m currently a high school senior and I’m applying to many of the UCs. I’m thinking about writing about under the table work and I’m not sure if that is a good idea or not considering it’s illegal. Any thoughts?
I’m no expert by any means, but I would say it’s probably not a good idea.
How would they know it is under the table? Let’s say you work at a restaurant…you are still doing the work? You still have a boss, right? I would not mention that it is under the table, but why not mention what you do?

Could torpedo you or could be what gets you noticed in a sea of increasingly “same” essays.
If you write about how you are scamming the system to avoid taxes, that will be a nonstarter. But if you write a high quality essay about picking vegetables alongside migrant farm labor and how the experience helped you understand a life that you didn’t know existed and choices you previously condemned, then it could be great.

Hell no! You are unique, you do not only have one topic to talk about. Try to talk about something that you are willing to tell your teachers about, because your essay will be read by randoms.
