Which co-ed schools for (in priority order):
Writing
Visual Arts
Languages/Study Abroad
Orchestra

I would rank Williams highly for writing, visual arts, study abroad and orchestra. Languages are limited in selection but available. Williams doesn't offer a creative writing major but it has several talented contemporary writers and poets on the faculty and an aggressive visiting author program. If you mean critical writing, the English department is very strong.

The studio art department (plus art history) is one of the best in the LAC category. Three world class museums and a sparkling studio facility. Also one of the strongest music departments among the non-conservatory LACs. There are lots of opportunities for performance even for non-majors.

Also very good for writing and visual arts: Skidmore, Kenyon, Hamilton, Wesleyan, Vassar, Conn College. I'm not familiar with their standings in language and orchestra, but study abroad is popular and accessible just about everywhere. You are not limited to the school's own programs but can choose to join a long list of authorized opportunities.

I know you said coed, but I'd still take a look at Smith.

Wesleyan is the alma mater of a slew of best-selling authors, including Robert Ludlum, Robin Cook, Lemony Snicket, Amy Bloom and Sebastian Unger. It is also home to what many consider the best undergraduate film studies dept. in the country and the best ethnomusicology dept.
