Writing at Davidson

Can anyone speak to the quality and style of the creative writing program? Also, as an undergrad, do you major in something and then minor or concentrate in writing?

the creative writing program is very strong and is a key component of the english major at davidson. if you were to concentrate in CW, you would be a declared english major. or, you could create a creative writing major through the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (CIS). the mcgee professorship is an especially fantastic aspect of Davidson’s creative writing department. it is an endowed professorship that brings a renowned author to campus to teach creative writing courses for a year. this year’s mcgee professor is thomas mallon, who is pretty much a rockstar in the realm of american fiction these days. his most recent book, a historical fiction novel called Watergate, has received a lot of fanfare and attention.
