Writing Awards and Contests

Does anyone know what (major) writing contests and awards are out there? If so, please post it/describe. I know of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards as well as a few local contests and my teacher nominated me for the NCTE thing, but you can infer from my name that writing is my "thing." I really want to find more contests etc. to enter. Anything would be greatly appreciated. My writing skills have gotten a little rusty over the past six centuries.

For seniors, the NFAA youngARTS program has several writing categories (finalists in this program win cash awards up to $10,000 and can be named as Presidential Scholars in the Arts). The Concord Review publishes historical essays written by high school students (lots of students submit research papers they've written for AP History classes.) If you can get published in the Concord Review, it means you write very well and it is highly regarded by top colleges. You are also eligble for their Emerson Prize which includes a scholarship. Beyond that, if you are into creative writing, google around and you can find many other smaller writing contests.

Google "national high school writing contests" or the like. Play with the wording, including "essays" or "poetry" or whatever's your thing. I've found plenty of national poetry contests this way.

Princeton, WashU, Kenyon, and Hollins all have writing contests for high school students that are very well regarded. The Kenyon one especially is a big deal.
