Writing Club

So what are some activities that could be done in a writing club, to keep people interested. Do you think people would join this club? :D

Critiquing each others' work is a staple. Writing, of course. Round robin stories are always fun. Try to come up with fun things so that people will actually join. Experiment with different styles or media with the resorces you have (poetry with interpretive dance and musical accompaniment, though I wouldn't suggest this exactly).

By the way, I'm not a writing person so I have no idea what I'm talking about. As long as it sounds right.

A lot of clubs that are popular have a combination of a charismatic leader and interesting topics that keep people coming back. For example, a friend of mine is the president of a Christian club at my school, which is really boring, but she brings tasty snacks and she's really nice and she tells EVERYONE she knows to come. Another popular club, yoga club, put up zillions of posters and made many announcements weeks before the initial meeting to drive up interest, and they had a turnout of about 50 people, which is really impressive. So basically, if you want people to come in the first place, you need to be really vocal about it and make sure that people know, and also hype it up so it sounds more interesting than it will really be, and to keep them coming, try to keep things fresh and exciting.

Oh, and snacks don't hurt.

But I kind of need some more ideas... I sort of have an idea what to do.

NaNoWriMo.
National Novel Writing Month
It's time-consuming, but [my roommate says] it's very rewarding. Basically the idea is you write an 50,000-word novel in one month (specifically, the month of November -- you're behind already, hurry and get the club started!)

But I'm sure it's a lot easier if an entire club does it together.

No offense, but doesn't sound like it'd be fun. Trying to write 1 story with 20 other people? No thanks.

fizix2, that's an interesting idea.

But what else could we do?

No, everyone would write a separate novel, then talk about how their novels are going etc.

But it'd probably be a huge time commitment.

^^^ I think the problem would be getting people to actually finish it. I don't even know if I can do it.
