Hey guys!
Does anybody know of writing competitions that do not require a teacher to sponsor you (where you can just submit your work on your own)?
I’ve looked into a couple of competitions but many of them require a teacher to sponsor and submit your writing for you. I’d appreciate if anyone could let me know of any good competitions.
Thanks!
YoungArts (HIGHLY recommend, although it’s not easy becoming a finalist). Scholastic is great, too, but slightly less prestigious.
Thanks! I don’t know about young arts, but I will definitely give Scholastic a try.

YoungArts and Scholastic Art and Writing are the main ones I know. Minor ones include PTA Reflections, Teen Ink, and other local contests and competitions.
Teen Ink is an opportunity to get published in print (this happened to me a couple times!). You can also try looking online for publications, like Adroit Journal and Winter Tangerine Review. These are excellent literary magazines that you can submit completely on your own, and if published you’d be a published author in a sense It’s pretty selective!
Thanks so much!
