Writing Contests/Awards

<p>What are the big awards (if any) of the high school writing world? I want to show colleges my passion for writing, but I'm having trouble finding contests that seem legitimate/are worth the time. I'm going to try and participate in all the good contests I can, so suggestions are welcome.</p>

<p>Newsweek has one I believe and so does Atlantic Monthly. Check those out. Also, ask the guidance counselor or head of the English department at your high school for suggestions.</p>

<p>Try the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This year's deadline is soon, though (January I think?), so hurry!</p>
