5 wrong... 0 blank.....8 essay..... 650!!! WHAT the heck is that. In March I had the EXACT same MC score with a 9 essay and I got a 700. I should have a 2100 but instead I'm getting a 2150. That writing section isn't at all fair. The results vary so much. I'm only worried because the UC's actually count the writing section.... Do you think they count it as much as the other sections.

"I should have a 2100 but instead I'm getting a 2150"

what more can u ask for???

ok, i got 5 wrong and a 9 essay......

a bs 690.... (this was may test)

3 letters for both of us..... (ACT!!!!)

Sorry, but if everyone else gets graded on the same scale, then it's fair. Fair doesn't mean you do well, fair means everyone gets graded alike.

well i got 5 wrong and 9 essay and my score is 680.. Why 10 points less? I don't get it..

From what I've read here, the SAT tests are fitted to a normal distribution.... This means that a certain % of students must be within a particular standard deviations from the mean. Ie... 780 might be z score of 3, 710 might be z=2, and 640 z=1... for a mean of 580 z=0.

If on this particular occasion, more students do well than usual that ultimately results in scores being scaled down, which is what seems to have happened in your cases. Ie.. z=3 might be 750 this time around...

You can not control it, apart doing the best you can on the day.

well, that still doesn't explain why people with the same number of wrong questions get different scores :|

I meant to write "wrong answers" ;)

among other reasons because all the questions are not of even difficultly and I'm sure the scoring system reflects this.

5 wrong, 0 blank on MC
10 essay

UGH UGH UGH, it's really annoying.

2 wrong, 0 blank. 12 essay

770.

What kind of BS is that?? I want that 800.

Mehhhh... I feel bad for you... I got 6 MC wrong, 0 omit with a 10 essay and got a 700.

0 wrong and 0 omit, but 10 essay....still 800. it just looks a bit unfair that they penalize more heavily on the MC than they do on the essay, zorgy

9 wrong, 8 essay and I got a 650..was this the Oct test.

I find this really odd as the collegeboard practice tests for 9 wrong give a scale of 620 to 780.

WHAT?????????? 6 wrong, 8 essay and 650... this is on the october test too!!!!!!

lol, 3 wrong, 8 essay, 690....so close, so close.....

October: 1 wrong 0 omit, 11 essay. 790

dude this SUCKS!!!!!!!!!! all of us would have at least 50 better if it was the old test (even the guy that got 800 anyway)

Thing is, since the Writing cruve applies to everyone, it is fair...well in taht sense at least.

The curve is determined individually for each test form. Evidently, those of you who felt "cheated" by the curve must have had extremely easy writing sections on the exam. Hence, the curve is much less forgiving than for a student who encountered more difficult questions. Don't forget, as well, that essays on two different exams may carry different weights in the overall score (the essay counts for ROUGHLY, not exactly, 30% of the score.) In the end, through the rigorous statistical analysis that goes into creating and scoring each exam, the same scores by different students on different exams should, in principle, indicate the same level of ability. Don't blame the exam. If you don't like the score, consider studying more and re-taking.
