Writing Essay vs MC

My scores ended up being Math 780, CR 770, and writing a paltry 680. I only got an 8 on the essay and 70/80 of the Writing MC. I was curious - what other combination of MC sub-score and essay score did you get to receive your score? I mainly want to find out how much I can manipulate my score by studying for the MC, as learning to write a proper essay is something that is a bit harder to study for.

(Anybody here know if those scores would be fairly competitive at Emory U? I got a 35 ACT and my extracurriculars are somewhat mediocre.)

74, 11 = 770

A lot of people say that the essay isn't that important, but when your MC starts to drop, a strong essay can really keep your score in the higher range

68, 11 = 730

74, 7 (completely screwed up essay) = 700

72, 12 = 780

Yep, it's bigger than I expected. I was thinking more like a 78, 10 after I walked out of the testing room, though.

I got the exact same MC/essay as cory123.

76, 11 = 790

I got 80/80 on MC and a 10 on the essay=800.

72, 10 = 740

80, 12 = 800 =)

72, 7 = 670. That essay really screwed me over.

80, 11 = 800 :d

70, 11 = 740

64, 11 : 690 (ugh)

74 - 11

*** i wanted a 790

*pouts

79, 9 = 780
80, 11 = 800

68, 10 = 710
75, 8 = 720

Wrote a dumb essay the second time around...

As for me (June 2 SAT)

MC= 760 Essay= 8

Combined writing = 730

Arrrg... I have got to learn to finish those essays!

80, 11 = 800 (Just like dollyflower)

The essay prompt on happiness was far too vague for my liking...

Same as bschenkel and dollyflower (80, 11) My mind went in two different directions after I first read the prompt, and they contradicted each other. I ended up writing an essay on Pride and Prejudice, oh the horror...
