Writing good papers in college?

Hey, guys,

I am a sophomore in college, yet I'll admit it: I struggle with writing good, legitimate papers in college with good theses. It's worse when there is no topic on which I need to write. I have a giant of a paper on the "Republic" due soon, and I have NO idea what my thesis will be. It's no fun thinking of something important to say when I don't even understand the book!

Links, anything, would be helpful.

Thanks!

To write a well written paper in college let me give you these tips:

Give yourself time to go through multiple drafts (as in at least 3-4 drafts)

Talk to your professor throughout the writing process to make sure you are going through the right direction.

If available, utilize a writing center where you can go over your paper with a graduate student

Have someone else read your paper

Read your paper out loud to yourself

Finally, something I like to do is go over the paper with a marker and cross out any unnecessary words I use (I tend to be rather wordy), and this will make your paper more succinct.

Hope this helps!

But most importantly, talk to your professor ASAP, before it is too late.

those are really good points. Another thing that helps is to have someone else read it to you.

I'll just reiterate the point that you should be speaking with your professor throughout the process. I'm a sophmore, and I just figured this out as well (unfortunately, only in time for my last writing class). Anyways, it has helped me immensely..he/she will be your best tool.
