Some critics insist that Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, (although a great humanitarian, is only a mediocre writer).

Answer: (A) No error

BUT
(B) "despite great humanitarianism, is only mediocre when judged as to writing"
^What makes B grammatically wrong?

(That) the country is now politically stable and economically robust (and will) almost certainly continue (to do so) (is) no longer seriously doubted. No error

Answer: C

Why? (I choose D because I thought "politically stable", "economically robust", and "continue to do so" was three separate things)

For No.1, B isn’t grammatically incorrect but rather wordy. Try to avoid the awkwardness and wordiness of sentences in the writing section; just go for plain and simple.

As for No.2 ‘That’ the country is blablabla… ‘is’ not blablabla is perfectly compliant with the subject verb agreement rules. Also something will continue to ‘be’ not to ‘do’ making C your correct answer :)

what should imediately trouble you about B is that it’s longer than A, making A the correct answer. but B is gramatically wrong because what should be inside the comas should refer to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, and “great humanitarianism” does not directly do so. it could have been “despite showing great humanitarianism”.

the country will continue to be so, not to do so. the sentence uses the verb “to be” (is). exemple: “John is very smart, and he will succeed if he will continue to be so”.
