Writing helpppp

i need help with these questions:

In 1991 Burmese military officials arrested dissident political leader Aung San Suu Kyi, (thereby) (preventing) her (from leaving) Burma (for accepting) the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo.

Built from 1609 to 1617 (to rival) the Hagia Sophia, Instanbul's Sultanahmet Mosue (was celebrated) not so much for its architecture (but because of) the exquisite blue tiles that (adorned its) interior.

In the novel Agnes Gray, Anne Bronte presented a fictionalized account (of both she and her sister's bizarre experiences as teachers) in the houses of Victorian aristocrats.

A) of both she and her sister's bizarre experiences as teachers
B) of both her and her sister's bizarre experiences as teachers
C) of both she and her sister's bizarre experiences teaching
D) about the bizarre experiences both her and her sister had as a teacher
E)about the bizarre experiences as teachers both her and her sister had

thank you so much

1) D - with reservations. This sentence seems ambiguous in its meaning. Was Aung prevented from leaving Burma because she accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, or was she prevented from leaving Burma because she was going to accept the prize? What book is this from?

2) C? I think there is a lack of parallel structure here - it should read “not so much for its architecture but for the …”

3) B - “of” is a preposition. Use the objective form after a preposition. Thus, “she” should be changed to “her.”

nice all of your answers were correct.

these questions are not from a book. they are previously administered tests.

also for the second one i put A as the answer because i the thought the phrase “to rival” should be “to revive” i was looking for a diction error. but i see now thank you

Always happy to help :).

And yes!!! 3/3 :D.

^ I have another explanation for question 2. I think the correct answer should read(not so much for its architecture (but for its exquisite blue tiles )).

Hope I helped … :)

I agree with IceQubes answers.

For (1) the corrected sentence would read:

In 1991 Burmese military officials arrested dissident political leader Aung San Suu Kyi, thereby preventing her from leaving Burma to accept the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo.

for accepting –> to accept

For (3) the corrected sentence would read:

Built from 1609 to 1617 to rival the Hagia Sophia, Instanbul’s Sultanahmet Mosue was celebrated not so much for its architecture as for the exquisite blue tiles that adorned its interior.

The comparison structure is idiomatic: not so much … as for …
