Writing letters to the UC's

I'm making up one class from sophomore year by independent study, and I have to write letters to all the UC's, because it wasn't stated on my application. What info should I provide? SSN? UC application number? How formal should the letter be?

What?? You should not have to write them a letter about something that small. If you do need to write a letter (for whatever reason), be pretty formal. Address it to an admissions person, use their last name, make sure the writing and grammar are good.

If you are updating your application, your SSN is unnecessary (and dangerous to send in the mail!). Your application number should suffice.

Oh, my counselor told me to write letters though :/
How else would I tell UC's that I'm retaking the class? Cause, I got a D...

Don't want to be mean here, but why are you worrying about it. Sophomore year is done. Your Gpa is done. From what I know, retaking a class senior year that you did bad in is more of an impression then anything else. They will probably accept you or deny you dispite the fact that you retook the course.

I know a lot about this area because I too received a D in AP physics my junior year, so I had no chance to retake the course to change the grade. In the end I just held my head up high and went on without retaking the class for 'feel good' reasons.

Hey, gotta listen to the GC. Shrug. I didn't want to retake it either, but at least it'll give a better impression of me trying. Plus I'm halfway done with the (online) course.

as a parent, I agree with your GC. Making up a D is a good thing, and can be beneficial to your app. If you are on the bubble, a campus might put you intoi augmented review.

Address the letters separately to the Dean of Admissions of each campus. It can be short, but formal. Thank them for their "consideration." And, yes, I would include your SSN.

What's an augmented review?

I don't agree with sending the SSN. It's too risky. I wrote a formal letter to the UCs I applied to about a schedule change, because I didn't see a way to do it online. I just included my name and application ID number. "Use your application ID number in all correspondence with the UCs."

^ Did you do the entire letter in writing? As in, handwritten?
