Hey guys, I was doing a practice writing section from the blue book and ran into some questions. Thanks in advance for the help

pg. 601 number 7: The correct answer was (That the ancient Egyptians actually sailed) to South America remains uncertain, but Heyerdahl's Ra II expedition demonstrated that they could have done so.

Could anyone explain how "That the..." is grammatically right?

Pg. 602 # 16: The young fish (were) very tiny, yet each of (them ate) many times (its) own (weight in) solid food every day.

Shouldn't were be was? The answer was no error.

Pg. 603 # 25: The exchange between the teacher and the student (promotes) learning (far different) from that which results (as) the student listens (but does not) participate.

The answer was C (as). What should as be?

Thanks once again
