I've heard people say that compare to CR and Math, writing does not weigh as much in the admission officers' eyes. Is that true?

Depends on the college and what you’re going to be majoring in. If you’re gonna be a writer with 400 in writing, things aren’t gonna work out so well.

Not that bad… like low 700 in writing. My CR and Math are high 700s. I aim at HYPMS so I am bit concerned. Maybe I should retake. Any suggestions?

Past 2250+, I really don’t think it’s needed but go ahead if you want to.

Some top schools look at your writing section but you are well in the range so I recommend you not to retake unless you can get a better score without studying. You should dedicate your time on other parts of your resume instead, as well as on college research, because they may be just as important.

Some top schools don’t look at your writing section at all (e.g. Cornell and Yale I believe). Do your research

Add MIT to your list. They also don’t look at writing section.

I’m sorry, I was mistaken. Yale does care about the writing section.

Well this sucks for me because writing was the only section I think I got an 800 in this Saturday. I messed up CR and math beyond reason.
