Writing Placement Exam

I am planning on attending UCSD this fall. I have not completed the UC entry level writing requirement because I did not take the AP Lang test junior year. They sent me a letter saying I need to take the Writing Placement exam. However, I am planning on taking the AP Lit test.

Can I just take the AP test?
If I happen to not pass the AP test, am I able to take the Placement Exam fall quarter?
Would they rescind my admissions offer if I did not take the Placement test on the 14th?

My understanding from the following website is that you DO have to take the placement test because you will not have an AP language score of 3 or more by April 1, 2016.

However, later on, if you receive notice that you did not pass the placement test, then you can use your AP English score of 3 or better, which you would receive over the summer, to satisfy the requirement. By the way, taking an AP course is NOT considered to be the same as taking an acceptable college level composition course, in case you decide to go that route.

Just want to point out that you can also satisfy the requirement with a 30 or better English Language Arts (ELA) score from the latest version of the ACT (average of English, Reading and Writing). There are other ways listed also, including certain subscores from the old versions of the SAT and ACT.

It says that your results on the placement test will not affect your admission to UCSD. Is there some reason you can’t take the test?

I am spending over $400 on AP test. I do not really want to spend another $110 for a test that I practically paid $92 for already.

By the way, I am in Revelle college. So, I would not take any Humanities classes fall quarter.

Oh gosh. That’s terrible. It really adds up. Btw just found that the second question in the FAQ is your question, and, unfortunately, it says you have to take the test.

I disagree with the statement that students in Revelle College don’t take Humanities classes in the fall quarter. Here is a sample of possible freshman courses for someone in Revelle (scroll down to where it says “Sample Program”):

@Dawg619 I’d take the AWPE even though you’re taking the lit exam. Revelle’s counselors approve the AP exams in mid-December, at which point it’ll be too late for you to take SDCC 1 if you need to. If that happens, you could fall a year behind on HUM. It’s better to be safe than sorry, but if you’re adamant you could always call Revelle advising

@DoctorP I will definately call them! Thanks, I wasn’t sure who at UCSD to call about this. However, If I knew I did not pass AP Lit (since results come out in July), couldn’t I just sign up for the SDCC 1 class fall quarter, instead of my fine art? Or are people who failed the AWPE the only ones who are able to enroll in the class.

You might be right, actually. I’d confirm it with Revelle to be sure though.
