Is there a way to place into Writing 5 despite of the department not recommending it due to a student's writing placement score?

No there is not and, if you write as you do in your OP, you won’t get through Writing 3.

LOL, I knew someone would say that. No, I do not usually write that way. I received an A in AP English Literature. Five students from my class period were also accepted to Dartmouth this year.

Sorry for the snark EmekChris. You served up a fat pitch and I couldn’t help but hit it. Best. :)

I’ve heard that writing 2 and 3 are actually more useful than Writing 5. Perhaps you should take them.

There are courses where you will have to do a lot of writing at Dartmouth. If they believe that you would be best served by taking writing 2/3, take the course and the opportunity to really develop your writing skills.

Agree with Sybbie, do not try to skip writing 5 if they believe you need it.

I haven’t been placed yet. I am just wondering what I could do if this were to happen.
