Writing portion of the ACT

Can someone please explain how this figures in on the score? My ds got a composite of 30. Will the writing protion change that score? And when do we hear on that? Thanks. New to all of this.

I have the same question; this is what I got

C: 33

E:32
M:36
R:30
S:33

Does anyone know what score I would have to get on the essay to maintain my 33?

I don't think the writing factors into your composite score.

Yeah ^ Although colleges look at your writing score and take it into consideration, it doesn't affect your composite. :)

And some writing scores are already up. I checked today and mine is up.

yes mine is up as well.

jmmom:

once the essays are posted, you'll see one more score, which is a Combined English (2/3rds) and Writing (1/3rd). While the Writing (aka essay) is scored on a 1-12 rubric, the Combined English-Writing score is reported on a 1-36 basis.

yep essay itself doesn't affect composite, but it does factor in with the english section as a stand alone, essay/english (sounds contradicting doesn't it) score that's out of 36

does the Combined English-Writing score really matteR?
