Writing Portion on December ACT

Do you (who took the December ACT with Writing) see this “new” act writing as very hard or very different form earlier writing prompts? This is the first (and last) time I took the Writing portion and I feel like I got a 6-8. >:P
What kind of schools actually look at your writing score or care about it?

To be honest, I’m not a fan of the new essay format. The new score is out of 36 which makes it harder to achieve a good score. I got a 22 on my September ACT while previously getting an 8 on my June test. 22 puts you around the top 20th percentile while 8 put me in the top 12th percentile. Plus it truly does not have much to do with your writing abilities. Memorize the “format” the ACT is looking for and you are good to go. And honestly, the Writing score will not be weighted very heavily. As long as you do not have a score that is too low and concerning, you should be fine. Some schools won’t even look at the Writing score altogether.

I hated it

@EcSkater thanks

I loved it. I had never looked at it before the exam and I thought it was very straightforward. I’m an IB student so I just imagined each “recommendation” bullet as a substandard to hit and just went for it! With that being said, I did have no preconceived notions about the previous test.

I got a 17 on writing. I know I’m not that good of a writer but still… >:P

I hated it. I am generally good at reading and writing. I actually got a 36 on English and a 33 on reading on the December ACT, but bombed the writing. I took it before it changed in April of 2015 I think and got a 30 but on the December ACT I dropped to a 22. I think it’s just going to come down to learning the new format. :-<
