Writing Q's

More trouble on the writing section … got 6 wrong in this practice test, and here are 3 that i found to be confusing:

The Joneses moved to Arizona [because] [they] thought the climate in that state [was] very [healthful]. [No error]

Answer was “No Error,” but I thought “healthful” sounded awkward in this sent.

Because of his throat ailment, the tenor [has not and apparently never will sing] again.
a) orig.
b) had not sung and apparently never would sing
c) has not and apparently never would sing
d) has not sung and apparently never will sing
e) had not and apparently never will sing

Answer was (d), and while I chose that ans, I don’t understand why it’s correct.

The difference btwn the candidates is that [one is radical the other, conservative.]
a) orig.
d) one is radical, the other, conservative

Ans was (a), I chose (d). Is that semicolon really necessary?

Was the original of #3 [one is radical; the other, conservative]? I don't see a semicolon anywhere...

Yes, there's a semicolon after the radical!

What abt second Q even i didnt understand the q i uwld have chosen B or E

yeah, #2 is a confusing one..

Well, I'm not positive about this, but from what I understand, the sentence is talking about the tenor as of right now. If the answer were B, it would have to be "had not sung and apparently never sang", as if everything were completed in the past. C and E cant be right because the "had/has not" would connect to "sing" and that's not grammatically correct. Same with the original.
