<p>Titles says it all. Which do adcoms place more emphasis on? Do they care more about how well you write or WHAT you're writing about?
Given 2 applicant scenarios</p>

<ol>
<li><p>Kid A writes about his dad living in poverty and how his father's struggles motivate him to succeed in life. Portrays his true values and character. Writing style is decent. Slightly above average. Nothing amazing, but far from bad.</p></li>
<li><p>Kid B writes about a simple subject, such as the cafeteria, but turns it into more complex concepts(In a nutshell, it's about how the lunch room can be so racially and socially diverse, but together, all the students share their school pride.). His writing style is phenomena: wide range of vocabulary and strong command of English language.</p></li>
</ol>

<p>Which is preferred?</p>

<p>From what I’ve heard, numero dos would be much more impressive. But it all depends on the school–UChicago, for instance, would lovelovelove the kind of kid that writes an essay like #2.</p>
