Writing Question for the Pros

BlueBook p.847 #23

[Something of] a phenomenon [in] the entertainment world, political satirists
A_______________B
[are admired] by conservatives and radicals [alike]. [No Error]
C
______________________D_E

The answer is E, but isn't A wrong because "something" cannot describe political satirists? Shouldn't you use "someone"?

Nah, "something of" is fine. It's an idiomatic expression if I am not mistaken.

JSB is right. "Something of" is just an expression.

"She's something of an expert on grammar." -- means she's sort of a grammar expert.
"He's something of a fanatic," etc.
