Writing question (& general question)

Why is the first one A? I put no error.
In the second one, shouldn't it be d? The second part of the sentence's subject is news right? so shouldn't it be were instead of was? The answer is no error.

ALSO, general question:
why should we not take practice tests from Barrons, PR, etc? Are they too hard? Not like the actual exam?

first one: passive voice. ‘to’ should change to ‘by’. the family consider the baby to be precocious not the baby herself.
for exmaple, the test was analyzed vigilantly by me. it can’t be the test was analyzed vigilantly to me.
active voice: the baby is precocious to her family

second: news is singular.

there are plenty of SAT practice tests out there. why bother taking exams from other companies?

Oh wow I can’t believe I thought news was plural.
Thank you!
