Writing Question!! HELP

(Working with) consummate skill, Picasso sketched a (portrait of) the youthful (but) experienced dancer who was (posing for) him. (No error)

The correct answer is (No error).
I chose (but). Shouldn't it be "yet" in instead of "but"? Yet is used usually when there is some sense of surprise i addition to contrast - "youthful YET experienced".

“But” is a perfectly acceptable word there. For questions that ask you to identify the error, focus only on finding an error and not some method to improve it (improving sentences is another type of question asked on the SAT writing portion). In the sentence mentioned above, the word “but” provides the necessary implication of a contradiction. That is, the word “but” reveals that while the dancer is young, he or she is still experienced. Thus, there is no error in the sentence. Furthermore, the words “but” and “yet” are rather interchangeable, especially in this context though “but” is more often used.
