I was wondering if "people" is singular or plural. What is it?

It is plural in meaning but singular in writing.

^But that is just more confusing.

“People” is plural. So it should be used as a plural in writing sense.

However… it is a collective noun. It’s singular is “person”. People might singular in the writing sense that it cannot be written as “peoples” but other then that, it’s plural in all sense.

^

I got lost halfway into your post.

^ lol same here

:(

Maybe if the OP could provide us with the actual SAT writing question we could see how it was used in context and try to help him/her out better…

i get it now. It’s plural. Thank you guys.

when you use it in a sentence, you dont say “the people is riding on the bus”, you’d say “the people ARE riding on the bus”, so basically you use it with a singular verb.

BUT if you have something like this “John of the village people (is/are) riding the bus”, then you use IS because it is referring to John.
