Writing question please help

The crowds that flocked to the World's Fair Chicago in 1893 were larger and more enthusiastic (than the crowds at the World's Fair in Paris had been) a few years earlier.

A. As it is
E. in comparison to those at the World's Fair in Paris

Why is the answer A not E? Thanks in advance

I think E is wordy.

The idiom is “larger than,” not “larger in comparison to.”
