Writing Question

Explaining modern art is impossible, partly because of
its complexity but largely because [of it rapidly
changing].
(A) of it rapidly changing
(B) it makes rapid changes
(C) of the rapidity with which it changes
(D) changing it is rapid
(E) it changes so rapid

Why is the answer (C)? (A) seems like it could work and it is more concise.

The question is testing your understanding of parallel structure: because of its complexity (noun)…but largely because of the rapidity (noun)…

^ oh i see, thank you for that information! do you have any recommendations for which prep book will help me master the writing section? i usually miss about 5-6 total on each test in the blue book, and im aiming to miss around 2-3.

If you are only missing about 5-6, you probably know the rules. Just take more tests and become acquainted with how the rules are tested. Check out the thread, ‘Post All Writing Questions Here’-Great explanations.

Also, A does not work because the noun is not in the right case, because it is modifying changing, it must be in the possessive case, its.

^agree with gertrudetrumpet

I thought that “it” needs to be “its.” You are concerned with the rapidity with which it changes not “it.”

Ex:

I looked up and saw someone’s stealing my burrito.

(you are interested in the stealing, not the “someone.”)
