Writing Question

I was having a problem in this question too @marvin100

I would appreciate the help
q. The information age has ushered children into a global society, (this situation causing educators to lament) a lack of texts that explain the diversity of cultures.
The options that confused me were D and E:
D) a situation causing educators to lament
E) and with it educators’ lament at

Which one is the better answer, and why?

The Blue Book Answer Explanation says that:
Choice (E) is very nearly incomprehensible. The only thing the pronoun “it” could refer to is “The information age,” but this would result in a sentence whose meaning suggests that “The information age” ushered itself in (along with “children”).

I didn’t get this explanation either

Whenever you see a pronoun you’d better find its antecedent ASAP. In (E), the nearest possible antecedent is “global society,” but “educators’ lament” isn’t somehow “with” that global society. So we look further afield and we see “information age,” but the information age can’t usher itself in and since it’s the subject, “it” would have to be “itself” anyway.

‘but the information age can’t usher itself in and since it’s the subject, “it” would have to be “itself” anyway.’
I couldn’t understand this. @marvin100

@yellowjeans Thanks for the wonderful explanation. It does make sense now
