Writing questions vs Writing Supplements

On Common App, I noticed All of the schools on S’s list say “There is no writing Supplement for this college”. However, half of the schools have “writing questions” such as “why did you choose our school”, “why did you choose your major” and “who is the person you dream of becoming…”, etc… I thought these are writing supplement prompts? If these are not, then what are “writing supplement” exactly? Sorry for the dumb questions!

I was thinking the same thing. I honestly think both the writing questions and supplements are the same thing, but I’m not 100% sure.

@jellyjam123 @MomtoAndrew2018 Maybe it’s because some of the writing questions are optional? Who would take the chance of not doing them if they really wanted to get in? The writing supplements are required. One school on my S list has 5 writing questions(optional) each with. 250 word max. 5??? Seriously?

If anything, I think the “questions” expect a direct response… the essay prompts tend to give you a lot more leeway in your choice of responses.

But, big picture, you’re right.

@bjkmom

Do you think the GA Tech 150 word questions are looking for a direct response?

Beyond rankings, location, and athletics, why are you interested in attending Georgia Tech?

We challenge our students to ‘be comfortable being uncomfortable’. Tell us about a time in high school that you felt outside of your comfort zone and the resolution.

I’d love to hear your opinion on this because I definitely added in a lot of narrative and “fluff” when responding to the prompts. Now I’m second guessing myself and strongly considering rewriting them to be more straightforward.
