Writing Questions

So for #1, should it just be "is larger than Monaco" rather than "is larger than the size of Monaco"?
Can you explain either way?

2, when do you use his or her and when can you use their? (assuming that is the issue?)

<a href="http://i43.tinypic.com/ivz3uq.png%5B/url%5D">http://i43.tinypic.com/ivz3uq.png</a></p>

Thanks in advance.

2 it should be their, I suppose. Because we are dealing with ‘candidates’ (plural) it is appropriate to use a plural pronoun.

see this : …the best way to evaluate David or Rita is to examine his or her records. (dont use their)
… the best way to evaluate David and Rita is to examine their records. (because and makes then plural)

1 is tricky. But I would say it is larger than Monaco. because I think when we say larger, we already mean size, so to mention size again would be redundancy.

I may be wrong in this, what are the answers btw?
