Everytime i buy a book or go to a tutor, they usualyl say the smae thing about five paragraph essays blah blah blah. I hate formulaic essays, i mean i write well but it doesn't come so easy to me. Is there any writing workshops in MA that i can try? If you write good essays, how do you do it. (and no, reading classics do not help that much)

Actually it does... I have a textbook from a summer course I took several years ago. It's like... narration by imitation or something like that. It really helps.

What really helps is finding someone to edit your essays/pieces and really have a conversation with you about it. It doesn't neccessarily have to be a professor or a teacher, a peer group does fine. I find that that's what really helps.

I contextualize and make it universal and say what I truly think in an eloquent way..

Avoid phrases like "really good". It makes your writing sound weak.

I think it's important to use a variety of vocabulary. Overusing "impressive" or big words can sound quite awkward in an essay.

The best way to write a good essay is to have something to say. Once you've got that, the words will flow out of your pen like magic.
