This probably doesn't belong here but here goes:

I'm sure many of you have gotten teachers/profs to write recs for you throughout the years. But here's a new one. How exactly do you go about writing a rec for your teacher? I went to my old HS today and one of my teachers asked me to write a rec for her. I was taken back at first but I said yes (seeing as how she's my favorite teacher). Anyway, do any of you have any ideas on how to start? I guess you can say I have a case of writer's block. Thanks for your help.

What, is she going back to school for her doctorate or something or is she getting a new job or what? lol, never heard of a student writing a rec for a teacher.

Write one with maturity and objectivity, but obviously include evidence of "passion" and "excellence" in your definition of the teacher. Vivid recollections of your experiences with this teacher are important.

I wrote one for my orchestra teacher, as he was leaving our school to find a new job. I can't say the recommendation of a high school student really holds that much merit, but try to make it as heartfelt as possible. Understand that her financial well-being is at stake. I felt that I wrote a stellar recommendation for the teacher, but he settled for a starving job at a chaotic school. I hope the best for your teacher.

hahaha, yeah, I thought she was going back to school too. Then she told me she was nominated for an award and she needed a student to write a rec for her. I find it kind of funny b/c I'm already out of HS and she's still giving me assignments to do - the only exception is that this is one I'm more than happy to do.

Thanks for the tip; especially your first sentence. Now that I think about it, writing objectively will definately help more than writing it from a purely emotional point of view. It's more or less like a persuasive essay, right? Thanks for the wish; I'll be sure to pass that along.

I consider writing this letter a personal thing, mostly because she's the one that wrote the best recs for me for all sorts of stuff throughout high school. I guess you could say I want to return a bit of what she did for me.
