Writing Review

Hello, I just got my SAT scores back. My combined math and reading score was good enough (Math: 670, CR: 690) (It was also my first time taking the SATs)
But I only got a 510 on the writing section. This score is well below what I would consider a decent score.
Does anyone know of any review books that they could recommend. (I don't just want a list Google could produce that)

Hey frosty7,

There are two books I would recommend: Gruber’s Complete Preparation for the New SAT, and the official CollegeBoard prep book.

These two books serve two different purposes, in my opinion, but work together perfectly. Essentially Gruber’s provides SAT writing problems that are much, much more difficult than the actual SAT. However, Gruber’s does not use the same patterns as the real SAT. That’s where the collegeboard book comes in. Though the CollegeBoard SAT writing questions are indeed easier than the real SAT, the patterns presented in the questions are nearly identical.

So basically, Gruber’s gives harder problems while CollegeBoard gives the patterns that the SAT uses. I think it’s really important to use Gruber’s harder problems because when test day comes, your anxiety levels will most likely be out the roof, unless youre a really calm test taker. Nonetheless, having practiced with Gruber’s will make the SAT problems seem a bit easier, and add more comfort. The CollegeBoard book will show you the patterns that you will hopefully instantaneously spot when reading the real SAT writing questions. These two books helped me get an 800 on Writing (10 essay; 0 wrong on multiple choice.) PM me if you need any help!

EDIT: If you need a link for Gruber’s book… http://www.amazon.com/Grubers-Complete-Preparation-New-10th/dp/0060581700

It’s only $10! :D
