Writing Sample?

Im doing the common app and the supplement asks for a "paper with instructor's comments." Can this be different or are they asking for the typical, 2-5 page graded essay?

What you do mean by 'different?' It can be a "research, expository, or creative paper" according to the supplement app.

Well I'm taking creative writing so I was wondering if I could submit some papers from there.

I would think that you would be able to (as long as it's graded), but you could double check via e-mail.

my daughter was thinking of majoring in biology so she submitted a graded research paper.
I suggest you submit a paper of the major that you are most interested.

What about math majors??!

mirror, do you have a graded research paper about math?

Mine came from a junior year writing assigment where we had to pick a college and write an application essay for them. I chose University of Chicago since they have the most offbeat essays. It's a really nice writing sample.

It doesn't matter what the essay is about or how long it is. Just choose a good one, and one that has the grade or perhaps some comments from your teacher on it.

Mirror, I wanna math major at Reed, too. Submitting a paper about a subject other than your major is no biggy. Just a good graded paper with teacher remarks.

I just submitted my Junior year APUSH term paper, because my common app essay was creative. Otherwise I would have submitted a graded creative paper from Junior English, but I felt that I should show both my analytical and creative sides.

Hmm... This is off topic, but you reminded me. When I visited Reed, my interviewer mentioned that there had been an art student who had taken ton of physics classes. She used this as an example to illustrate the idea that the arts and the sciences aren't so far off, after all... It's an interesting idea. Well, that just seemed worth mentioning. I'm done now. : )
