Writing Section June 4th SAT... question w/ "the greater amount"

What the hell was the Gardener Questions? does anyone remember?

i know...and i apologize if its annoying ppl, but that single question can make me get 3 wrong, which can lower my potential writing score by more than 50 pts, because there is a huge drop from two to three wrong...

nah i can understand. i just thought it was funny that someone is as worried as i am ^_^.

hows the stats?

4 ppl put A

2 changed?

it was like: "Gardeners would use fertilizers more if they can be shown to increase crop production."

I put A, because they would refer back to the closest subject I guess, which is the fertilizers, which is accurate. The other ones were absolutely retarded to. Like "the gardeners being that the fertilizers showed an crop production increase would use more fertilization"

Exactly...all Others Were Retarded...

The answer is probably A, since there is no ambiguity as to what "they" refers to (after all, it would be illogical to say that farmers can be shown to increase crop production).

I don't remember the question, but if the original sentence had "would" and "can" together like albert posted, it wouldn't be correct.

randomperson...i am not sure if it was phrased exactly like that...however, all the other answers were VERY stupid/incorrect...AHHH....I soooo hope it's right!

Was this one of the first questions in the section?

i think i remember its being #9 out of 14...or #9 out of 11...not sure (do u remember, pitcher?) why?

Honestly...no recollection of #...sry. Man, 8 freaking days. We're halfway there boys!

i thought it was #12 out of 14

wrath...i prolly asked u b4 but dont remember... (as i've asked every1 else...) do u remember what u put??

lets keep a tally...(feel free to update this if u had this question...)

Answer A:

albertfermat1
NJPitcher

Answer Something Besides A:

Vehement

lets keep a tally...(feel free to update this if u had this question...I know there are a lot of u out there...)

Answer A:

albertfermat1
NJPitcher

Answer Something Besides A:

Vehement

help out guys!

I got A on the gardeners question (I didn't like the original sentence but I hated all the rest of them. It's certainly possible that one of them was fine and I was just too quick crossing out answers.)

I agree with NJ on "the greater amount". "Although they are similar" and "while" shows that it's going to be a contrast, and I don't think that "little" can be contrasted with "the greater amount". Godot produces a decent argument and while I'd be surprised if there was no error in the sentence, I wouldn't be shocked. I know this has been discussed thoroughly already so I'll just say that my instincts were in tune with NJ's when I took the test.

i put A for the gardener one i think. it seemed like it was wrong, but all the choices were worse. :)

Answer A:

albertfermat1
NJPitcher
Rikataka
df14

Answer Something Besides A:

Vehement

btw, the ONLY reason (a pretty weak one at that...) that gives me hope that the answer to "the greater amount" is E is that there would only be one E in the whole sentence IDs...
