Writing section of SAT

Does CMU look at the writing section of the SAT at all? Sorry if this has been answered, but I can't find a clear answer anywhere. if you could also include where on their site it says that they do/don't use it, then thanks again.

Yes they do, but it is not weighted as heavily as the other two sections.

I got something like a 510 on the SAT II Writing back when I took it a while back and I still got in (with a pretty decent scholarship).

I was wondering because they have my may scores, but my june scores are worse in math and cr but better in writing, and I wanted to know if i should bother sending it.

Thanks RacinReaver for sharing that story...I hope they are lenient with the writing section....most of the ppl I talk to just can't figure out how I got 770 on CR but only 690 on writing....

Don't worry about it too much. While I got a 510 on my SAT II Writing, when the GREs rolled around I managed to get a 5.5 on my writing (~85 percentile, scaling is out of six) while only taking one English class during my whole time as an undergrad. I think those standardized tests are a little crazy for the writing sections.

Mathson got into SCS with a 690 (twice) in Writing two years ago. He also did much, much better at the CR. A 690 is really a pretty good score. I wouldn't worry about it at all . BTW he got an A in the required freshman writing course.

thanks for sharing that, mathmom....and I assume your son got an excellent score in math?? hehe....
