Writing Section really superfluous to some colleges?

Hey fellas.

Colleges that indicate that they don't consider the Writing section of the SAT in the applications, do they fully ignore it?

Can i slack off my writing prep if my first picks don't consider the WR section for admission?

ehh don’t slack it through. Writing, in fact, is really easy to improve cuz everything is systematical.

Adcoms will look at your scores nonetheless…? I may be wrong.

Wait, do colleges request to see the writing section of the SAT? Does it form some basis on your admission into the college in this way?

Not all of them do, I’m asking about the ones that don’t.

Which ones do - like do the Ivies etc request to see them and base decisions on them (or consider it a factor)?

Yes, the Ivies will see them. Every college will see your writing score. Just because you get an 800 in Math and an 800 in Critical Reading doesn’t mean you can slack off and get a score of somehting like 500 in Writing. The colleges mean that they emphasize Math and CR more than Writing but that doesn’t mean they completely neglect Writing.

Plus, getting a low score in Writing is pretty pathetic because it’s the easiest section.

Colleges that don’t look at your writing section don’t “request” to see it or not see it. You can only send scores by individual test, meaning you can’t pick and choose which sections within one test to send. If the college says that it does not consider your writing score, then it won’t at all, but they’ll still receive the score. No one knows if they take a glance at it or anything, but as far as we know, when it comes to such schools’ policies, strictly speaking, schools that say they don’t look at the writing section don’t consider it at all.

That being said, by chance, it is unlikely that all the colleges on your list don’t look at the writing section, unless you purposely apply only to colleges that don’t. So obviously you should do well in the writing section unless your dream school does not accept it and you’re certain you’ll get in.

The 23 California State Universities (CSUs) do not count the writing section in admissions and I am pretty sure it does not have influence at all. This is because admission to a CSU is basically done by a computer algorithm that ranks applicants based on their CR+M score on the SAT, GPA and whether or not the applicant is from the particular CSUs service area. There are no essays or letters of recommendation and ECs are not considered. Apparently, applications to CSUs are not even read by a human, they are just fed into a computer which does the calculations and then generates an acceptance or rejection letter.
