Writing section was ridiculous for October.

So I somehow manage to do worse on the essay each time, I think it’s cause I am getting lazier and more OCD.

I got a 9 essay and a 79 MC and got a 770.
The first time I took it I got a 12 essay, I wish they would superscore essay & MC cause then I would have an 800!

79 MC
+
11 Essay= 800

surprised, because last time i missed 3 on MC and got a 70
and i got a 9 essay, which fetched me a 710 overall

apparently, my writing had to be the lowest score out all of the sections. can u say wow?

Writing was weird this time -
I felt fairly confident after the test, but I got a 60 on the MC which is very odd. I don’t know whether to be ****ed off or not put too much weight on it seeing as I’m still a junior. It would have been nice to have an additional 70 points on the writing though, like I normally get.

Really ****ed at the writing curve this time.

I was expecting 720-740 and I got a 660.

what is that!? I’ve never missed so many problems before.

same here. i never missed so many questions before. on practice tests, my highest score was usually writing (740-760). I expected 720+

i got 69 MC (not expected… it just doesn’t seem right)
9 essay (expected)
690!

My friend got 9 on the essay and 80 MC -> 800.

I got 10 on the essay and 69 MC -> 710.

Wow…the essay really didnt mean crap.

I went from 78 to 69 MC (didn’t think I did THAT much worse)…Good thing my 12 essay saved me from a 90 pt decrease.
780=>750

I’m soooo mad about my essay score. 79MC + 8 essay = Epic fail.

69 MC = how many missed questions?

does anyone know?

yea, you missed 5

here was the curve

-1 79
-2 76
-3 73
-4 71
-5 69

thank you. wow I’m very surprised. I usually miss about 1-2. what happened? :(

BigWeight -

WHAT??? I got a 12 and a 76 and i got a 790!!!

how does that work???

anyone???

64 mc 8 essay = 630 :frowning:

down from may (68/9=680)

10 Essay 58 620

tell me about it… SAT writing in general is ■■■■■■■■.

why do i say this?

my english teacher told me that i was an idiot and that my papers suck (it’s true, actually)
i’m not a very good writer,
yet i happened to ace
the writing section. (79 MC, 11 E)
also, i got a 760 on the CR section, and i almost always read the sparknotes instead of reading the book for english class =p

so yeah, my english teacher was surprised.

honestly i didnt think i’d improve this much in writing

in may 08 i got 690 with a 9 essay and 69/80 mc

in oct 08 i got 790 with a 10 essay and 79/80 mc

its weird, i was getting mc questions wrong on practice tests…but on the test day it just seemed so easy…everything just flowed really well, lol…that 790 reaaaallly boosted my total score

i found out how to get 10+ on the essay: COMPLETELY fill up both pages…i got down to the last line

here are some formulas for sat essay success!:

also note that PLANNING the essay is NOT necessary.

6-8: fill up the first page, and half the second. try to write a competent thesis, and support it with a random example

9-10: fill up both pages, write a good thesis, and support it with two examples or more

11-12: (works EVERY time, NO JOKE): FILL UP BOTH PAGES, write a good thesis with a nice vocab word in it (capacious, commodious, pernicious…the like), support it with a historical example, an example from literature, and a personal parallel. also, don’t be afraid to pepper up your essay with big, nice-looking vocab words. you will GUARANTEE yourself a 12 if you do this.

^yeah, I can’t swallow my pride and write like that (peppering flashy vocabulary, etc.). I’m also a slow, deliberate writer who doesn’t usually manage time very well (e.g. spending 10 minutes thinking about the prompt), so my essays tend to fill up only 1 1/2 pages and have no conclusion, which is why I can never get 11-12 essays

now that I think about it, it’s amazing that I even got a 9 with an essay like that
