Writing Seminars

I didn't research this dept. of JHU too much because I thought I was definately going to be rejected. But in an insane twist of fate, I got into this program today. I know it is very good, but HOW good? I also got into NYU for English/Journalism, Boston College/Fordham/BU for English and Pratt Institute for Writing for Publication.

Any insight from enrolled students about this program would be absolutely stellar!

I’m 90 to 99% sure that the Hopkins Writing Seminars program is #2 in the nation, behind some Illinois school or something.

Wow! Looks like I’m going to JHU next year then, haha.

“The Writing Seminars department, a program in creative writing, was ranked second-best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report”

Obviously, it’s just a ranking…but it should tell you something. WantIvy, I think it’s Iowa that’s ranked #1.

I plan on majoring in Writing Seminars too. :)

Haha, I started crying when I got in but had I known it ranked THAT high, I think I would’ve collapsed of dehydration.

I am so excited. Truly a dream :)

The program is exceptional - mostly workshop style courses once you get through the intro classes. Very small classes, lots of reading and writing of course but all discussion based…

With faculty like Tristan Davies and Jean McGarry - it speaks for itself…

You are one lucky lady! Congrats!

Oh man :)

One last question to pester y’all with: Do you know how many students are writing seminars majors? I know sciences are VERY popular at JHU, so I’d imagine most students in science related majors. Please correct me if I am wrong.

It’s about the following:

1/3: Engineering
1/3: Sciences
1/3: Humanities & Social Sciences.

I believe the most popular major is International Relations… It’s a balanced class but engineering and sciences are 2/3’s. This isn’t terribly different than any other highly selective college with a school of engineering however.

Thanks a lot Wealth!

I like reading this even though a lot of it is NOT about anything academic - she’s just an interesting writer. there is some info about the major however.
