<p>I know Yale and some other colleges require additional essays, but Common App doesn't show them. It has a red line and says "not required" under writing supplement. I am suspicious that this is true. Any idea?</p>

<p>Please note that the Yale freshman application will be available on the Common Application website sometime in August. The Yale-specific questions will include one additional required essay for all applicants, and one optional essay for prospective engineering majors. The essay prompts for the 2014-2015 Yale Writing Supplement are as follows:</p>
