My parents are absolutely insisting that I write to the admissions office now describing how much I want to go to Columbia. I was deferred ED and have already sent in a letter letting them know they are still my first choice. As there are only ten days until decisions are out, I sincerely think this is not going to work. Should I write to Columbia? Is this even going to reach the office in time for a read?

well, i was also deferred ed from columbia. to be completely honest, i think it is a little to late for the letter. it might reach them in time, but i think they are not accepting updates anymore. i know it seems like im dissuading you, but cornell had an update on the website saying that are are no longer accepting updates, and i think all ivies would follow that. and i mean, it probably will reach them in time, but do YOU think that this letter is gonna really have an impact on them? (in reference to the content, not in anyway an insult) what did you include in that letter?

Some updates and confirmation of my continued interest. I think I’m just going to write an email because my parents are going to be really mad if I don’t do anything.

i guess thats fine. i hope we both get in :)

has anyone even gotten in after getting rejected just because they wrote a letter saying how much they wanted to go?

after all…i would imagine you’re not the ONLY one writing a letter, and i’m pretty sure that columbia doesn’t accept or take into consideration any appeals whatsoever. which is what your letter is.

in fact, here it is, found it

“May students rejected from Columbia appeal their admission decision?
No. If your application to Columbia is denied, that decision is final. There is no appeal process for admission decisions, and applicants are not re-considered for admission.”

sorry, but your letter will most likely not even be read. no one has time for such things.

Yeah…ill get on this line too!

I was not rejected. There are people who have been deferred and then accepted. This is not an appeal.

Hate to burst your bubbles guys, but this step should have been done a while ago, possibly in December or January. I’m uncertain how much of a difference this letter would make to your admissions now.

^^^^^ I sent mine in way before. I send it in mid february

“has anyone even gotten in after getting rejected just because they wrote a letter saying how much they wanted to go?”

No. A decent number of deferred students are admitted in the RD round, though.

Dudes, I know this is not going to improve my chances if I am already rejected, my parents are very very mad at me for not applying to 8 Ivies and MIT, and I don’t want to make them even more mad by not sending this email. In fact, I already have. I’ve also snail mailed a letter of updates and continued interest in late January(I think).

I was deferred ED, and sent in a list of updates, a letter of interest, and a funny list of the top ten reasons they should still accept me. But I don’t have my fingers crossed. Hopes high for Northwestern?

^^^^^^ humor always helps. it makes u stand out. i just gave a letter, and a rec from a columbia alum that my reg officer knows, because they graduated only 1 year apart
