Writing

<p>Is a 10 on the Writing considered okay for top schools? After that science section, I feel like my quality of writing really slumped.</p>

<p>Making a 10/12 on the writing portion is the equivalent of making a 30/36. For most of the ivies, 10 is the cut-off. You should be in good shape.</p>

<p>gaines, where do you get a 10 as an ivy cutoff???
is there even a single school, let alone an ivy, that posts that kind of requirement??
my sister was accepted to Dartmouth last year - she had an 8 on writing (32 comp).
she was applying to many of the top schools and repeatedly told that the writing section basically meant nothing, unless you got a score like a 2.
anyway, as reflected from so many of the threads here at cc, it is the composite score that is determinative on admissions
and at the ivy - mit - stanford etc, it is more about hook, etc that gets you in.
better to be a 30 act with a decent index and strong legacy or superstar athlete…, instead of a 36 act 4.0 with no hook at all when applying to top schools.
that’s the way it is and it will always be like that
my school just had a kid accepted to stanford with a 29 and about 3.5 - both of his parents and grandparents went there and are active alum.
yet there are so many act 35s and 36s that get rejected at stanford.
anyway, whoever told you that writing has a cutoff or is very important, gave you bad info.
good luck to all.</p>

<p>Psh, I got a 6 on the writing, so I think you did fine.</p>

<p>Yeah… I’m hoping that’s the case. I got a 36 English, 7 writing. Combined? 31. Yuck. I hate formulaic, rushed writing.</p>

<p>justmae,
when did you get your score???
did it come out with your test score?
or did it post after that?</p>

<p>I got my multiple-choice scores the night they came out… my writing scores just posted today, I believe. </p>

<p>Ugh… I can’t believe I did so bad. I was happy with my scores until this. :(</p>

<p>what was your essay about?</p>

<p>what position did you take?</p>

<p>did you finish the essay?
did you know of any major problem with it??</p>

<p>this guy has us nervous haha</p>

<p>I got an 8… I’m glad colleges don’t care about the writing score.</p>

<p>john, when did you get your score?</p>

<p>when I woke up at 9 this morning</p>
