I got a 620 for the Writing section but I was hoping that since I take Higher Level English in the IB Diploma programme (And got a 6 out of 7 in it, equivalent to an A) and have a good reference about my ability to write from my English teacher, would it make that 620 somewhat less significant in the admissions officer's eyes? Also, would a fantastic personal statement and supplementary essay have a similar effect?

heyy.
The writing section is amongst my least favorite parts, and like you I’m stuck with a 640 (practice test) despite my 7 in HL IB English. I think the majority of it has to do with the essay, if you are going to take the SAT again I’d focus on that section some more. If not, don’t fret. Your strong writing ability will be evident in your essays and short answers part of your application. On another note, I found out that two of my schools want writing supplements from my coursework, and I may send in my World Lit. essay. If your schools ask for a written piece of work this may also work toward your advantage.
