Wrong AP Score?

Okay I got a 3 in AP World History I was really upset and for a number of reasons. It doesn’t make sense because I had the highest grade in my class and also because in every practice test our teacher gave us I got a 55+ on them while the second highest score in class was 39. I atleast think I deserve a four, I was not nervous and I felt great about the test after it was over, also my AP Human Geo score is missing from 9th grade I got a 5 on that one (independent study).

I want them to be rescored what do you guys think? Has this happened to any of you before?

Maybe you didn’t write good essays.

Just because you had the highest grade in the class doesn’t automatically grant you a 4-5 on the AP exam. Perhaps you missed some questions/didn’t explain essays thoroughly enough? If you honestly think they messed up, have it rescored. Just don’t get your hopes up because it doesn’t happen often.

Thanks guys? I felt good about the essays as well ughhh oh well but really thank you for your input.

Unlike in APUSH and the English exams, APWH essays are graded according to a very specific rubric. You probably already know this if your teacher prepared you adequately for the test. For example, if you didn’t include a credible (based on the reader’s discretion) request for an additional document on the DBQ, the max score you could earn would be a 7. It baffles me that many people, not just the OP, when asked about their essays say something to the effect of “I felt good about them”, especially when they have a very specific idea of how their multiple choice panned out.

Never have I seen anyone break their essay down, critically, with regard to the rubric. Such a breakdown would read: “I felt my thesis and topic sentences were strong, but my analysis and additional doc request could have been improved.” or “I forgot a PoV on one of the docs in my second body paragraph.” Only when you think harshly about what you actually wrote can you expect a credible evaluation on CC.

Crosdog is right. People really underestimate how strong the writing needs to be to receive a good score. Remember that AP World History is a college-level course, and they require college-level writing for the essays.

A 3 is a respectable score and better than over half the test takers. I’m also assuming this is your first AP test. Don’t get yourself down.

Thanks Crosdog! That was very informative I’ll be sure to include that.

Thanks Rob1995 as well but it is actually my second, I got a 5 On Human Geography w/ no course 9th grade and in a sad funny kind of way when I have a course I get a 3. Lol but thank you for the encouragement =)
