I submitted the Common App to 4 universities with the graduation date as May 29, 2010, although I had been careless reading the calendar and the date was actually supposed to be May 28, 2010. It seems like a pretty minor problem, and I'm not sure what exactly the colleges need it for, but is it necessary to contact them so that I can fix it?

I wouldn’t bother. They just want to know that you are graduating in the spring of 2010.

Would there be a greater problem if you put 2009 as your year of graduation?

They might want to know what you’ve been doing since graduation. Working or going to some sort of community college or something like that is good; becoming an Afghan militant or doing a stint in federal prison is not.

Oh, I meant if a current high school senior accidentally put the previous year on the Common App, but all of their other information (transcript, recommendations…) indicated the correct date.
