Wrong info on Apps.

I put the wrong total in the total family income box. My dad gave me an estimate and it was 7000 less that what he really makes. Will this affect my chances of getting accepted ?

I don’t believe it will – especially if the institutions are need blind – BUT inform the universities IMMEDIATELY of this error.

I agree, you want to tell the universities immediately. There could be exceedingly drastic repercussions if you fail to correctly, efficiently, and promptly make known to your universities that you created an error.

@Ctesiphon So it is a big deal if i messed up ? It was on csu mentor and it partially for the fee wavier and i got denied the fee waiver anyways. How do i contact them and let them know ?

@TopTier‌ Do I call the admissions office or email them ?

@JennySimi345‌: I would e-mail first (after all, it is a “record” communication) and then follow-up in about a week with a telephone call (just to ensure the data has been corrected). Mistakes of this type (and for this cause) are likely not rare, but you REALLY NEED TO NOTIFY THE UNIVERSITIES NOW.

@TopTier‌ OK thank you so much.

@TopTier I just rechecked and the application said the total family income was for the EOP classes and fee waiver and it would not affect acceptance. Also it said estimated total family income and 7,000 doesn’t seem as far off. I don’t know if i should email them because it seems like i don’t need to. Do you really think it matters ?

@JennySimi345: With what you’ve just reported, I honestly don’t know . . . and I really do not want to provide bad advice. My “gut” now says “no,” however, you certainly could call and ask. I am always concerned by anything that – even entirely inadvertently – could be perceived as an admissions ethical breach.

@TopTier I asked my counsler at school and she said it was fine that it was only for fee waiver. So i don’t think i have to do anything about it. Thanks for the help and you provided great advice.

You are welcome!
