Wrong place to put chances thread?

lol I've been posting the same thing in all the schools I'd like to apply to.

GPA UW: 3.6-3.7
GPA W: 4.3-4.4
( A lame excuse for my drop in grades would probably be that I moved in between semesters of junior year. Yeah I know, I still should have done better)

6 honors classes Freshman year
8 honors sophomore year
9 (kind of, pretty much 8 1/2) junior year

APs:
AP Bio- 5
AP Chem- probably a 3 or 4
AP US- 5
AP English Language- 4
AP US Gov't- 4
AP Microeconomics- probably 5
AP Macroeconomics- probably 4 or 5
AP Human Geography- mostly likely 5
AP Environmental Science- most likely 5
AP Statistics- most likely 5

Going for 7 tests next year.

Senior year:
Dual enroll: Philosophy, English, European History, plus 3 more second semester
Math and Science Center: AP Calc BC, Organic and Bio Chem, AP Physics C

When I transferred I got accepted to a small, private math and science center that's pretty well known by the top universities. Next year I'm just dual enrolling at a university for half the day and going to the math center.

ACT: 31, going for 32 or 33
SAT II (PREDICTED):
US History: 760+
Bio- 780-800
Math 2: 710 (will retake for a 750+)

ECs: Band- section leader since 7th grade. Jazz Band, University band, Civic Band in the university/community. State honors band 2 years (moved out of state so I couldn't do it again.) I also am not in the school band here b/c I had to chose between band and the math and science center. State S/E since 8th grade, NHS 2nd year next year, volunteered at the hospital 70 hours plus going for 150+ hours at Habitat for Humanity this summer, Science Olympiad 3 years, (some sports here and there that don't matter b/c I never contributed anything)

yeah not much in the EC department, I hope that's okay though. Maybe some opportunities will arise next year.

Essay: Not sure, I've got some good ideas. Will probably get the help of an English professor this fall. I think they will be really good- they've really got to be b/c it's my only chance... lol
Recommendations: again, since I just moved here this will be difficult. I could use my bio teacher of 2 years but that was when I was younger.

I'm not sure if there's anything else really. Moving really hurt me as far as extracurriculars and grades first semester. I know it's not that great of an excuse, but I hope it's some what understandable.

See my reply on your Stanford post. Pretty much the same thing, except that your chances are quite a bit better at University of Chicago. The two schools are really different though, so I would make sure that you know what you want.

First of all, don’t give us projected stats because we’re working with what you have, not what you will become.

Second, don’t give me that litotes with your “lack of ECs”, Mother Theresa.

Finally, Chicago wants a human being, not a spreadsheet of numbers. If you can express yourself as a person that not only is academically capable of approaching their curriculum, but someone people would aspire to surround themselves with, then you’ll have no problem at U of C or any top-tier school. Your grades are fine from the actual (not projected) scores you’ve received. Your issue (and that of many on CC) is escaping the “cookie cutter” image that high-achievers accumulate over time. If you can do that, you may not get into all the schools you’re aiming at, but a few favorable ones will accept you. Your problem is that you are worrying about the wrong issue here. Just relax and figure out how you want to express yourself in the application, and you’ll do fine. And trust me when I say that posting here is not going to help because we are not behind the closed doors.

But hey, go ahead and crunch those numbers. Don’t take any advice from me cause after all, I did get in writing an essay about Batman…

Um sorry? Nice with the Batman essay though, that’s pretty sweet actually. I’m pretty sure my predicted scores will be close to accurate, but I wouldn’t be completely surprised if Math went under 700. I just thought that they might help in the “chancing” process. But yeah, maybe I’ll update that on the 25th.

I also took a look at the essays, they are very tricky. Are they changed every year? I don’t want to start now and find out that they changed the question.

They do change every year. And don’t worry too much about scores.

bump 10char

They don’t look at the SATIIs or the writing section of the SAT Is.

And the essay is waaaaay more important than your test scores.

or they don’t HAVE to look at the sat iis, if you don’t want them to. ;)

It’s really a bit early to be worrying (though a year ago I was too).

Yeah that’s true. Hopefully my essays will turn out.

Historically, the have not looked at SAT IIs or the writing section of the SAT I. I doubt they will change that this year.
