My mom doesn’t trust me with my own social security number and it turns out that she gave me hers instead of mine on my common app. I didn’t find out until today when I was about to create a FAFSA and realized the one she gave was different from the one she gave for common app.How do I go about rectifying this mistake and how screwed am I because I don’t know if colleges have looked at my app yet. I began submitting common apps on January 1, so if they did look at it and the SSN didn’t match would they have contacted me?
I would email your admissions counselor from each school, or just the admissions office, and let them know the problem; they can usually fix things like that on their end. Emailing your SSN is a little sketchy though, so I would definitely ask if they can fix it before sending the corrected number, and even then sending a photograph of your card rather than typing it out (for security reasons).
