Right, and as I keep saying, the town of Princeton isn’t complaining that Princeton University is not paying enough taxes to cover its costs to the town; the town is complaining that it would get more tax revenue if another entity were there.</p>
<p>We also tax conservation land at a lower rate than land which is built up; do people complain that homeowners with huge tracts of conservation land should pay taxes as if that land were a cul-de-sac full of mansions? Yes, you would get more tax money from that particular parcel of land if homes were built up on it, but the town may become less desirable, and the homes would incur costs to the town that are not currently there.</p>
<p>Profit = revenue - expenses. Basic stuff.</p>
