I GOT REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD SCORES ON MY SAT IIs. Not that they weren't bad enough before, but now they are just WORSE. I EVEN DID WORSE ON MATH...WOW I AM SO STUPID TAKING THE SAME TEST TWICE, NOW THEY WILL SEE HOW DUMB I TRULY AM.

WELL SINCE I GOT DEFERRED AM I COMPLETELY ****ED NOW?!?!? THANKS

I believe that if you truly want, you can take them again in jan (?) and then send them again. It might mean studying over winter break but it could be very useful.

Dunno exactly on this tho, but I don't think your life is truly truly over.

LOL...no I think on April 2nd, then it will be OFFICIALLY TRULY TRULY OVER.

I'm just AFRAID I'll score even lower b/c I know I'll tell myself I'll study but I have never studied so lets face it I probably won't start now... WTF

IS IT WORTH RETAKING THEM IN JAN AND WILL MY PRECIOUS GET THEM IN TIME????

LOL. you REALLY need to calm down. There is more to life than going to your favorite college. That being said, there is more too admissions than just your test scores. So settle down, actually study this time before you retake them, and look at other schools as well. Cornell is not the only college that will be a fit to you.

Do you think I need to calm down?? Like do you think that me being so obsessed with Cornell has made God think I violated rule #1 aka don't worship anyone but me!??!?!?!?!?!

DO U THINK THIS IS WHY HE'S RAINING **** ON ME!??!?!

You shouldn't worry about sat scores so much, here is the simplest way to explain the application...
SAT's 1&2's: 20% of admit; comprise first impression
GPA: 20% of admt; comprise first impression
Essays: 20%
EC's: 20%
Recs: 20%

So your SAT scores count for barely anything of your application, and since you say you have poor SAT II scores, then you can think of that like 10% of your app, if the other 90% is good, you will get in. There is way more to admissions than SAT scores. Try not to worry too much, make the rest of your app good/better. Good luck.

psquared, I wish adcoms admitted students based on your percentages. Then, I would have gotten in to Cornell. Unfortunately, I think it's more like this:
GPA, class rank: 40%
Test scores: 30%
Extracurriculars: 10 %
Essays: 10 %
Recs: 10%
Also, NickyJane, why don't you just not send your new scores? Also, don't take it again in January. It's definitely bad to take SAT IIs three times, as they will think you are completely obsessed with numbers. Also, there are many colleges like Cornell that will accept you. I'm sure you'll be happy wherever you end up. :)

Don't worry...if you get rejected, it may actually be a blessing in disguise. Cornell is extremely competitive, and you may not have enjoyed it once you actually got there. Going to a less competitive school sometimes is the best thing that can happen. At least you'll still have pride left....many of the best students I know have failed miserably at Cornell. It's scary.

I replied to one of your posts before because you made me remember my daughter's admission experiences. You need to take a deep breath and really lower the volume. First, the adcoms are not going to pick through your SAT 2s and see your lower scores. They are presented with your highest scores. Same for the SAT Is. They don't analyze the scores to the degree you are thinking. I have seen your scores and your class rank on a prior post. You are well, and I mean well, within the admit range unless you applied to one of the super selective programs such as AEM. So again, calm down. Perhaps your anxieties are being transmitted through your apps.

As I said before, have your guidance counselor call and try to get a feel for why you were not admmitted. Again, with the state funded schools, it is common for a defferal/admit. Get one more recommendation and then write a short letter on why you still believe Cornell is your No.1 choice. AND, if it does not work out, then your next choice will be your dream choice. You will have a great time at college and you will laugh at this obsession later in life.

My own D was recruited to go to Holy Cross and clearly was on the very high side for grades and SATS. She wanted to attend because, as she later admitted, her then boyfried was attending school nearby. When she unexpectedly did not get in, she cried for over an hour and while sobbing said "my life is over". We still laugh at that one, especially since she broke up with the boyfried within two months after the start of the semester. She graduated from Cornell last year. And it was a truly great experience for her.

So as you kids say, chill out. It will all work out for you.

for state schools u said it was common for a deferral and then admit? Is that true..how do you do know that?(Im juts wondering cause iwas deferred from bioengineering cals)

Last year when visiting this site as a result of another child applying to Cornell I saw this reported in numerous posts. I have no empirical evidence. Sorry.

i kno there is a good chance those three scores might work against your admission to Cornell...but I still think you should apply because you are still a competitive applicant...oh and first..if you already sent your application for Ed I think you dont have to send the test scores again..if they already got yours previous scores...so I don't think it's a problem..work on those..writing letters to the admission officers and getting good grades and getting awards to have something to talk about in your letters...good luck~!

Isn't the deferral-admit rate pretty low, at 2%? It's either the deferral-admit, or waitlist-admit...one of those is near impossible to get in from.
